Hollywood arrived in Rotterdam
•March 28, 2009 • Leave a CommentWhen I came back from my shooting assignment today, this wonderfully kitschy touristy Hollywood postcard greeted me on the kitchen table. I’ve never before received a postcard from Hollywood yet, much less from anyone who actually lives there (or, at least, in the neighborhood).
This will get a special place in my new apartment. Promised.
The cake
•March 24, 2009 • 2 CommentsBefore the shooting assignment, we had a little internal party in the afternoon to celebrate the first important milestones of our lab, including the pre-launch of the new website which I am, among other things, responsible for. And we had this lovely cake, featuring our logo.

•March 22, 2009 • 1 CommentWe mounted the new spice rack from Ikea today. Sara was curious and tried to make her first attempts to climb it. Not sure whether it will survive the night.
Ikea dusk
•March 20, 2009 • Leave a CommentWe went to go looking for sofas, but except for Kramfors which is only available in black and brown leather (not in red, like I want), all of their sofas are too soft and the sitting height too low.
Tomorrow I will show Jaap the sofa I saw at Metz the other day. It’s more than twice as expensive, and it has 10 weeks delivery time instead of three, but it’s made in Holland (thus I would strengthen the Dutch economy if I bought it) and it seems really robust, has an incredibly buttery red leather option, a nice design, and seems to be friendly to your back too. I’m gonna spend big time for that move, that’s for sure. The parquet guy will come on Monday to show his samples. He’s not cheap either, although in comparison to the others I was looking at it will be a bargain. It’s really exciting to furnish a new apartment.
Other than that we spent 70 Euro on sweet little nothings, like a new bathroom carpet, a cutlery drying thingie and a spice rack for Jaap’s place, a shampoo rack and two plug-in lamps for my new apartment, a couple of coat hangers and three jars of their lemon herring which I heart.
Thank god it’s Friday.

My back is better. Not good, but better. Thanks for all your well-wishes.
Other than that, I had a good meeting today, and I signed the contract for my apartment. Will get the keys after we come back from Berlin, in a month from now.
It’s coming true!
Woonmall Alexandrium
•March 14, 2009 • Leave a CommentIt’s an interesting building, but a true nightmare if you really need something. There are like 50 furniture stores under one roof, but the stuff each of them sells all looks alike, mostly. Not a pleasant place to be on a Saturday. If ever.
Sofa shopping
•March 13, 2009 • Leave a CommentThe first store of its kind I visited. This was the only one that didn’t sink to the ground when you sat in it. But it’s €1,800 in red leather. And not perfect enough for that price.
Will go and roam some more.
